Blood On TV: Death Valley

Blood On TV: Death Valley
by Eli Henry

Death Valley is a mockumentary TV show on MTV about a special department (the Undead Task Force, or UTF) of the Los Angeles Police Department that dispatches the werewolves, vampires, and zombies that mysteriously descended upon Calfornia a year before the show's opening, and are now living in the San Fernando Valley. The show is structured like some kind of COPS from Hell.

Death Valley only managed to survive a season, but that one season is better than any programming MTV has aired in at least a decade (probably more).

The show's premise is played as a comedy, and most of the humor comes from black comedy, and very, very absurd dialogue, especially from Captain Frank Dashell (played by hilarious comedian Bryan Callen, a member of the original cast of MADtv). If you want good horror TV, and are tired of Vampire Diaries or True Blood, you should try Death Valley, I think you'll enjoy it.

On a more random, musical note (get it? "musical note"?), the show's theme song, 'They're Coming For Us' (performed by The Measles), is great.

At the end of the day, Death Valley is another under-appreciated, cancelled-too-early show, like Firefly, or Arrested Development.

  Overall: 8.5/10
