Trailer-Talk: Texas Chainsaw 3-D
by Eli Henry
'Texas Chainsaw 3-D'. That's what they're going with. Anyway, I'm a big fan of the first two (AKA Tobe Hooper's) Texas Chainsaw Massacre films, the first a strictly horror (and man it was horrifying), and its sequel a satirical horror-comedy (akin to certain segments of Evil Dead 2). All of the sequels that followed sucked. Badly. However, the remake was actually pretty good, but the remake's prequel (does that make sense?) was banished (and rightfully so) to the "forgotten-TCM movie zone".
So when a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie was announced, I wasn't excited. In fact, I was a bit dismayed. Then, the word "Massacre" was taken out of the title, and 3-D was tacked onto the ending. Not encouraging. Then a pretty slick poster was released, and my hopes went up ever-so-slightly. Now we've gotten footage.
Here we go:
Hmm... that was actually pretty good. I'm actually a little excited. Mostly, people have said that the trailer is just like every other trailer. I disagree. I think that while it does hit some of the same beats, it's definitely pretty original, and from the looks of it, it might be pretty good. Anyone else notice the slaughterhouse? Anyone remember the hitchhiker from the original TCM mention his whole family (Leatherface, the Sheriff, and Grandpa) were fired from a slaughterhouse? Hmm...
